Our Service
Welcome to Meadowell Clinic at the Watford Health Centre. We are here to help you.
We offer healthcare for people experiencing homelessness or who are living in insecure or temporary housing.
Our doctors have special interests in homelessness, mental health and addiction. We are caring, confident and non-judgemental in working with people with complex needs.
We offer regular GP clinics from 9.00 am -12 midday and 3.30 – 6.00 pm, Monday-Friday.
(Meadowell Reception is open from 9am – 6.pm)
- Pre-booked appointments are available, and we also offer a walk in system.
- Please arrive at 9.00 am or at 3.30 pm for a walk in appointment.
- Due to the nature of walk in appointments there may be a wait to be seen.
At Meadowell clinic we offer many services that will help you to look after your health:
- Blood borne virus screening (hepatitis C and B and HIV) is offered to all patients. We offer free hepatitis B vaccination to all.
- We offer a full nursing service including chronic disease management, vaccinations, cervical screening, wound dressing, contraception and sexual health advice

Meadowell Clinic at the Watford Health Centre
An Enhanced Primary Health Care Service for Inclusive Healthcare for Homeless and Marginalised Groups.
Meadowell Clinic provides healthcare to over 600 registered homeless and vulnerably housed individuals. This service is the only comprehensive healthcare service for homeless people in Watford and currently provides the following:
- General physical health assessment.
- Drug and alcohol screening assessment.
- Mental health / dementia assessment.
- Recording of different agencies already involved with the person’s care.
- Thorough review of medicines.
- Administration of vaccinations for flu, pneumococcal and hepatitis B vaccinations, where clinically indicated.
- Screening for blood borne viruses including HIV and risk of TB and provide interventions as necessary.
- Identification of ethnic origin, sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Recording smoking status.
- Sexual health screening including chlamydia screening assessment where appropriate.
- Assessment of foot care needs.
- Patient education/ self-care advice.
- Development of a care plan that reflects the person’s health needs requirements and goals. The service provider will ensure that this is shared with all relevant agencies, subject to patient consent,
- Explanation of health and care services available both within and outside the practice that are relevant for the patient and refer to the appropriate organisation.
- Resettlement and integration planning
In addition to operational work, Meadowell Clinic has delivered training to third party organisations on Mental Health and Substance Misuse’ Our primary care service for homeless people endorses the ‘Services Available and Best Practice Guidelines: Working with Rough Sleepers in Watford’ produced by the Watford Strategic Homelessness Forum (May 2019) to which we are a part.
